In 2010, the City School District of New Rochelle (CSDNR) implemented a free solution, Google Applications for Education and named it NredLearn.org. Google Apps for Education Edition is a free suite of hosted communication and collaboration applications designed for schools and universities. The NredLearn.org "CLOUD" is a safe, filtered learning portal for students to use. Teachers, students and staff are required to log-in with an assigned username and password in order to enter this online learning portal.
This solution is customized, safe and provides secure collaboration and communication tools powered by Google for students and staff. A CSDNR user can easily retrieve homework, email, assignments, documents and more from any classroom and beyond the classroom walls with an Internet connected device.
In 2014-15 school year, CSDNR added Google Classroom for grades 3-12. We also added Google email and Google Drive accounts for over 11,000 students and staff. We provided Google professional development for teachers and staff in the summers and throughout the school year. In the fall of 2015, we added a pilot group of 100 grade 2 students to our NredLearn CLOUD, and will study how well students utilized the Google Apps for Education in the Grade 2 curriculum.
CSDNR reviews instructional and productivity Apps from the Google Playstore on a regular basis to insure their learning value and safety for all students to use. All Google Apps must comply with the District’s Acceptable Use Policy, Internet Safety Policy and be CIPA Compliant.
